The Medical Emergency Assessment Unit ( MEAU) is looking for someone to join their team of Deputy Sisters in this exciting, demanding but extremely rewarding role. Caring for patients over the age of 16 with a wide range of acute and chronic medical illnesses., MEAU admits on average 1000 patients a month from A&E, GP services and other care providers.

Duties for this post will include clinical duties such as assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care whilst supporting colleagues in providing high standards of care.

You will frequently be the designated shift co-ordinator and will be expected to deputise for the Department Manager. You will be supported to be an efficient Team Leader who is able to co-ordinate effectively whilst maintaining the highest standards of care and good team morale.

Working with and leading the multi-disciplinary team, you will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You will need to be a role model, both clinically and professionally with the ability to motivate and manage, adapting to rapidly changing situations.

Clinical

Take responsibility for the assessing, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care Support colleagues in care provision

Provide clinical expertise with up to date knowledge within the speciality

Professional

To work within the professional scope of the Nursing and Midwifery Council adhering to the Code of Professional Conduct

To work within the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust policies

To be involved in the investigation of disciplinary issues and complaints

Reflective Practice and Clinical Supervision

To act as a role model for junior staff, ensuring own clinical competence

Managerial

Act as shift co-ordinator ensuring safe and smooth running of the department

Co-ordinates and negotiates with the multi-disciplinary team

To ensure safe staffing numbers adjusting and authorising staff on the rota

To participate and lead in recruitment and selection of new staff

To have professional development and pastoral responsibilities for a team of trained nurses, health care support workers and reception staffed

To participate in Staff Appraisal and support the achievement of professional development plans

Communication

To ensure effective communication between members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure smooth and safe running of the department

To ensure patients and relatives are kept informed as appropriate

To participate in staff induction programmes
