**How you'll make a difference**:

- As a vehicle mechanic you will play a critical role within a team who maintain and test the councils fleet of vehicles in a in a timely and efficient manner, so we are able to carry out vital services across the community.
- You will be responsible for carrying out MOT preparations, quality checks, repairs and attending breakdowns as required. You will also conduct repairs, defect rectification, servicing and inspections of all items within the council’s diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, associated organisations and external customers.**What will you be doing?**
- You will carry out running repairs, defect rectification, servicing and inspections and MOT test preparation in order to provide Authorised Testing Facility under VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency). You will also conduct quality checks, repairs and attend breakdowns as required, identifying the correct spare parts required and requisition as required.
- In the job role you will ensure vehicles and plant items are safe and in a roadworthy condition when work has been finalised and that quality standards are achieved, identify necessary repairs and determine effective methods of rectification.
- It will be your responsibility to complete documentation such as daily/weekly time recording, vehicle/plant job cards and records, servicing sheets, defect reports including MOT documentation and procedures and any other as required including data input.
- It is key that you maintain good levels of housekeeping within the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act.
- You will be required to participate in the standby (out of hours) emergency cover arrangement on a rota basis,as required.

**What we need from you**:

- You must have extensive relevant experience of servicing, inspection and repair of LGV/PSV vehicles, plant, cars and vans both diesel and petrol and experience in vehicle electrical systems.
- We require you to have and NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, City and Guilds Level 1, 2 & 3 in a related trade or equivalent.
- You must have a full manual driving licence.
- It is important that you have and up to date knowledge of current legislative and technical issues (through attendance at Manufacturers or similar training courses)
- We are looking for Team Players who can also manage your time and workload effectively.
