Owned by the Italian Frandino Group and originally founded in the 1950s as a fruit distillery, **Sedamyl **has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wheat derivatives such as starches, sweeteners, proteins and alcohol for major food and industrial sectors worldwide. In 2012 the group expanded its international presence by opening a plant in Selby, UK.
**What We Do**
**Sedamyl UK,** uses Yorkshire-grown wheat in its production, which is purchased from a network in excess of 1,000 local farmers, so providing a valuable and sustained revenue stream. The announcement in 2021 to invest a further £80m in expanding both its distilling and liquid sweetener production, significantly boosts an already growing workforce to around 150 employees, creating in excess of 75 new jobs for the area.
**What we are looking for**
We are looking for a Technical Operator to join our Wet Mill operations team to support both process Operators and Area Managers with all aspects of production within our processing plants. Ideally you will have proven experience of working in a fast paced, heavily automated production facility with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify/rectify potential process issues. You will be instrumental in the continued success of the plant by seeking to improve the process and mentoring colleagues to reach their full potential. In addition, you will be an effective communicator, and a strong team player with the ability to lead the process in the absence of a manager, whilst being seen as the technical “expert”.
Responsibilities include:
- Proactive presence on the plant, supporting operators and manager to ensure daily production targets are met within a safe and collaborative environment.
- Supporting the training and development of operatives to encourage engagement and enable them to progress within the business
- Working closely with the Maintenance Team to assist and support them with preventive and reactive maintenance requirements
- Conducting monthly inspections of processing plant equipment
- Challenging the existing standards to continuously improve the process, reduce waste in all forms e.g., energy, water usage etc.
- Supporting and improving processing plant housekeeping standards
- Deputising in the absence of manager, encompassing all aspects of managing the end-to-end process including issuing permits to work for maintenance colleagues and external contractors
- Providing operator cover as required (you may be required to provide shift cover)
- After sufficient training join the ‘on call’ rota
**Skills and Knowledge**
- Experience within a manufacturing/production environment
- Excellent team working and communication skills
- Extremely flexible approach to working hours
- Can do attitude and happy to lead by example
- Confidence to make reasoned decisions which will directly affect performance and productivity
- Excellent organisational skills
- FLT Licence
- Basic computer skills
