The Role of Children and Young Person’s Sanctuary Coordinator

The Children and Young Persons Sanctuary provides an out of hours, evening service offering person-centred mental health support, information and advice for young people aged 11 to 18. The CYP Sanctuary will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 5pm - 10pm, based at 2 Perrots Road, Haverfordwest.

Your Responsibilities

1. To coordinate and ensure the effective delivery of a facilitated out of hours self-help service and drop-in provision for children and young people in Pembrokeshire. Your primary place of work will be at our Resource Centre at 2 Perrots Road, Haverfordwest however you may be asked to work at other locations to meet the needs of the role.

2. To provide a safe space for children and young people with low level mental health problems through facilitating a retreat which allows for time out from detrimental influences.

3. To support a team of youth workers to be able to listen to the concerns of the children and young people accessing the Sanctuary and provide effective guidance, information and reassurance whilst promoting independence, resilience and positive health and wellbeing through a range of activities.

4. To keep client safety a priority and effectively manage risk to themselves and others.

5. To ensure all elements of the Service Level Agreement and grant criteria, including data collection criteria, are met, alongside individual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) e.g. attendance and recovery rates.

6. To accept without bias, the issues raised by children/young people, parents and guardians and to support the CYP Sanctuary team to be able to do the same.

7. To support the team to assess the strengths and needs of children and young people assisting them to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward e.g. referring clients to other sources of help as appropriate.

8. Manage waiting lists for service.

9. Manage any feedback or issues/complaints.

10. Manage the effective monitoring and evaluation of the CYP Sanctuary supporting the team to ensure that all client paperwork, including outcome monitoring forms, are accurately completed.

11. Provide statistical information on service data and provide reports when requested.

12. Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with and or requested by line manager.

13. To develop and evolve this role to meet the service specification requirements.

14. To facilitate regular team meetings as well as one-to-one support and development sessions with the CYP Sanctuary team.

15. To promote/publicise the service and establish positive engagement from children and young people, as well as being involved in promoting general aspects of wellbeing.

16. To develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and stakeholders to promote the service and to encourage referrals.

17. To undertake these duties within a framework that recognises the diversity of clients and encourages equal opportunity for all.

18. To promote and implement Mind Pembrokeshire’s policies and values.

19. To understand and comply with Mind Pembrokeshire’s and our partners’ data sharing and permissions statements as well as our GDPR responsibilities.

20.To participate in, and embrace, support and development, appraisal procedures and training as agreed or directed.

21. To deliver all aspects of this role under the direction of the Resource Centre Manager and CEO.

22. To undertake such other duties as would be reasonably required for a post of this level of responsibility, as directed by the Senior Management Team of Mind Pembrokeshire.

4. Undertake talks and presentations, attend events and open days, produce publicity materials and update the website/social media as appropriate and where requested by the Senior Management team.

5. Liaise with other agencies to forge effective partnership work that is mutually beneficial.
