Port Engineer - Milford Haven
The Port Engineer is to assist the Technical Superintendent in providing hands on support and expertise to the Milford Haven fleet which consist of 9 tugs 6 work boats 1 waste barge and 6 safety boats. Assistance in other local ports may be requested in busy periods.
Provide practical engineering expertise, timely guidance and recommendation of solutions to technical matters, including modifications to vessels to achieve best practice of operational solutions. To provide engineering and technical support to other areas of operation both in UK and in other parts of Svitzer group as required. To ensure that the Technical Superintendent is informed in a timely manner of all significant operational issues that impacts availability and technical readiness of the fleet in support of our service commitment.
The Port Engineer to assist the Technical Superintendent in providing hands on engineering support and expertise to the Milford Haven fleet which consists of nine tugs, six-line boats and one waste barge.
Provide practical engineering expertise, timely guidance, and recommendation of solutions to technical matters, including modifications to vessels.
Work with subcontractors and ensure quality of work.
Ensuring the full technical readiness of all the vessels operated within the port of Milford Haven and assist in other local ports in an emergency.
Assist the Technical Superintendent as directed in the management, planning and coordination of maintenance, regular service periods, dry-docks and upgrades through the designated service contractors / vessel crew as appropriate. Assist the Technical Superintendent in the coordination of surveys, inspections and certification ensuring that the vessels are fully operational in accordance with local, national, flag and classification society requirements.
Assist in the preparations for of dry-docking, vessel upgrades and other major repair or upgrade periods, sometimes at external ports, ensuring timely, prompt return to the fleet of vessels under repair. The promotion of safety and safe working practices as an operational priority, ensuring that adequate safety equipment is available with PPE worn in accordance with company operations manual.
Assist the Technical Superintendent in the development of port-based engineering expertise among selected vessel crew capable of accepting delegated responsibility for local engineering planning and maintenance.
A thorough and demonstrable understanding of how the engineering and technical support impacts on the service commitment and a good understanding of customers and their requirements.
Experience in Marine Engineering of a practical nature, afloat or in ship repair.
A Marine Fitters qualification or appropriate experience in a similar position in the commercial marine industry required.
Demonstrate a high level of expertise in Marine fitting and welding. Conversant with small electrical repairs.
