Applications are invited for a Specialist Technical Instructor in Knitwear and Knitted Textiles. This is a permanent role, working 0.4FTE (14 hours per week) at our facility in Kensington.

Purpose of the post:

- Provide highly skilled technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to a wide range of students and staff working with Textiles Knit processes and equipment.
- Take a lead in ensuring the effective provision and availability of specialist equipment and work areas in order to facilitate academic delivery, student learning, and Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation (RKEI) activities.
- Provide support to the Technical Lead in the day-to-day function of technical services within the area of Textiles Knit.
- Significant, highly skilled specialist knowledge in knitwear and knitted têxtile processes, techniques and skills.
- Significant experience of domestic knitting machines including Brother, DesignaKnit software and Silver Reed Electronic knitting machines.
- Ability to provide individual and group tuition on specific technical processes within the knitting and production process.
- Experience in the finishing/linking of all knitted garments.
- The ability to teach the mathematical process of pattern calculation.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Risk Assessment procedures
- Experience in delivering in-person technical instruction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent user focus and a flexible approach.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
