**Job summary**:
Planning is at the heart of delivering the Department’s vision to support people, places and communities. It plays a critical role in bringing forward the new homes the country needs, delivering our environmental objectives from climate change to biodiversity, and facilitating the infrastructure necessary to support economic growth.

The planning system is undergoing significant reform. The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill contains an ambitious package of reform to the system so there are better development outcomes, environmental improvements, and greater community engagement. Over the next year, the Department will be taking forward a major implementation programme to deliver these reforms.

The Department wishes to recruit a number of people with strong planning experience to play key roles in delivering these changes and supporting further policy development. These Senior Planning Officer roles offer an exciting opportunity to help shape the future direction of planning nationally. They cover a wider range of planning matters, including our overall planning strategy and delivery, national planning policy, development management policy, local plan delivery, biodiversity net gain, environmental assessment reforms, nutrient neutrality and infrastructure planning.

**Job description**:
Working as part of small teams, you will provide the specialist planning expertise required to deliver the Government’s objectives.

Many of the roles will involve developing new regulations and national planning policy, requiring significant engagement with Ministers, other Departments, local planning authorities, the Planning Inspectorate and users of the planning system. Some roles will provide an opportunity to work directly on environmental policy and environmental assessment reform.
