The Information Commissioner is the independent supervisory body for the Data Protection Act 2002 and the Unsolicited Communications Regulations 2005.

**The Role**

**The Isle of Man Information Commissioner Office is seeking a new Information Commissioner to join initially on a 6-month contract, with a view to going permanent afterwards.**

This role comes with **flexibility/hybrid** working. It would best suit someone who is able to travel to/relocate to the Isle of Man. _(during the induction period, presence would be essential to bed yourself in)._

At the Isle of Man Information Commissioners Office there is currently a **team of 5, ** including the current Information Commissioner, who has been in this post for over 20 years and is leaving at the end of July 2023. They are, and therefore you will be, supported by a Deputy Information Commissioner and other team members.

The responsibilities and work you would do in this role is driven by the legislation. The Data Protection Act 2002 balances an individual's right to privacy with the legitimate needs of businesses and organisations to process personal information.
- This legislation itself sets the Commissioner's duties and functions which include, but are not limited to:_
- Maintaining the register of data controllers who have notified the Supervisor of their processing of personal data;
- Promoting good practice by data controllers by providing advice and assistance;
- Promoting the observance of the requirements of the Act by providing advice and assistance;
- Undertaking assessments of the processing of personal data by a data controller when a request is received from an individual; and
- Assessing any processing of personal data for the following of good practice at the request of a data controller.

**Requirements**:

- Experience of working in data protection is essential.
- Experience of working in GDPR and on freedom of information is essential.
- A modern approach.
- Excellent communication skills.
