Lead Research Midwife
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and organised Research Midwife to join the INSIGHT2 team.
Building on our previous pregnancy cohort study (INSIGHT, which focussed on biomarkers for risk prediction of PTB; recruited >2000 women), the goal of this INSIGHT-2 study is to recruit a larger, more comprehensive longitudinal pregnancy and birth cohort. This will allow us to study the emergence of a number of several related pregnancy complications and determine the impact on the fetus, neonate and child. We also plan to follow up the mother’s health after pregnancy.
This will be offered on a fixed term contract basis for an initial period of 12 months. There may be potential to extend beyond this.
The post holder will be London based and employed for 100% WTE (or part-time), which will involve the initial start-up and ongoing multi-centre co-ordination and delivery to time and target of the study. The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from the CI. The post will be based within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health 10thfloor North Wing St Thomas’ Hospital. Responsibility will include: ongoing responsibility for the management and organisation of research duties, ensuring a high standard of study administration and record keeping; with corresponding responsibility for coordination of the study.
The post holder will be required to travel as necessary and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary research team and key personnel in all sites. Relationships with antenatal senior midwifery staff and Principal Investigators will be key to success. The team at STH is experienced and active and will assist in trouble shooting at this site, and the post holder will be encouraged to be part of this team and involved with local activities and other clinical research studies when complementary to their role or appropriate.
The post holder will ensure that the research undertaken safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and ensures the robustness of the scientific data; and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Our team consists of research nurses, midwives and clinical research practitioners all working on a wide range of clinical research studies and trials on Reproductive Health & Childbirth portfolio.
We are very fortunate to also be closely linked with the King's College London Department of Women and Children's Health and a member of the King's Health Partners.
The NIHR Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN) was established by the Department of Health to improve the speed, quality and integration of clinical research, resulting in improved patient care. It is managed by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre. The NIHR CCRN comprises 25 local research networks (CLRNs) in England, each including primary care, secondary care, tertiary care and mental health NHS service providers. The role of the CLRNs is to establish and maintain an excellent NHS infrastructure for clinical research and research management. This infrastructure includes clinical research support staff and sessional support for clinical investigators of all professions, funding for other NHS Support Costs such as additional clinical services and diagnostic tests, and research management and governance systems and staff.
Being embedded within the LCRN and having the close working partnership with King's College London and the academic links gives us a unique position and enables us to be at the forefront of clinical research within the field of Reproductive Health and Childbirth.
