Working alongside your programme of work at the Hartree Centre, you’ll undertake a Level 6 Data Science Degree Apprenticeship with York St. John University. In this, you will study a number of units covering mathematics, statistics and programming for data science and artificial intelligence. Towards the end of the Apprenticeship you will undertake a work-based project and a final End-Point Assessment to include a knowledge test, a project report and a professional discussion with a sectorial expert.

The qualifications you will achieve are:

- BSc (Hons) Data Science
- Level 6 Data Science Apprenticeship

Alongside developing a portfolio of work-based projects to build and demonstrate the required skills, behaviours and knowledge required for this apprenticeship, you will undertake professional development and training through a blended approach of 4 x 5 days block face-to-face delivery each year, supplemented by weekly online activities and additional x 2 day mini-block delivery per month. This will be delivered by York St. John University at their central London campus (travel & accommodation expenses will be provided) where you’ll study the collection of methods, tools and knowledge used to collect, analyse and interpret data. The apprentice will have an internal network to support their development and learning.

**About the role and a summary of key duties & responsibilities**

**Duties include**:

- Work on building solutions to customers’ data science challenges.
- Visit commercial and academic partners, validate conclusions and present results to customers, including using advanced visualisation.
- Make site visits to commercial and academic partners.
- Publish non-confidential results to build the Hartree Centre and your own profiles in the community.

**Person specification (Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and any special requirements)**

Essential:

- A strong interest in Data Science, technology and computing
- Must have/be predicted 120 UCAS points and one of these must be A Level Maths, minimum Grade B
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including focus and quality of cover letter
- Confident with strong attention to detail and able to prioritise tasks effectively
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative to solve problems

Desirable:

- Programming experience with at least one language, e.g. Python
- Basic knowledge of data science and visualization libraries such as Pandas, Seaborn, Matplotlib and others
- Knowledge of basic concepts in statistics (e.g. mean, variance, probability).
