**The Role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher who can work with us to deliver an applied research project in a real-world context - “Strengthening Maternal and Infant Health Equity Research and community engagement”.

Through community engagement and participatory approaches this project is aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and research priority setting focused on reducing health inequalities for mothers and families. This will be mainly targeted towards women and families from ethnic minority and migrant backgrounds.

Developing and evaluating trainings for healthcare professionals (HCP) on “Trauma aware, culturally sensitive and compassionate care (TCC)” through community engagement.is also part of this project particularly using digital sources.

This project may involve a triangulation of methods including systematic review, qualitative in-depth explorative research as well as quantitative research. This involves an interdisciplinary team of researchers and practitioners working with NHS Trusts, volunteers, maternity peer supporters and charities with a particular focus on diverse populations and reducing health inequalities for vulnerable groups including immigrant populations, refugee, asylum seekers, minority ethnic communities, all of whom may experience marginalisation and social exclusion.

As a researcher on the project you will:

- Use qualitative and quantitative methods
- Conduct systematic reviews
- Work with a research team and colleagues with a wider remit including academics, clinicians, staff from neighbouring Trusts and city councils as well as volunteers
- Use social media and digitalised communication tools

With a relevant post-graduate qualification (or close to completion), you will have expertise in managing data collection and planning a study, in association with a range of stakeholders and colleagues. You will also have a range of research project management skills and experiences including the ability to plan, organise and manage budgets and resources, and be able to effectively present project findings. Recent experience of conducting participatory research, excellent interpersonal skills and communication with all types of stakeholders particularly mothers and families from underserved communities is essential.

Within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Science (CHWLS), Maternal and Infant Health Research group undertakes a diverse range of collaborative projects and programmes in partnership with the NHS, academic and commissioning organisations and the voluntary sector across the region. We are ambitious and forward-thinking - with an excellent reputation for high quality research that influences policy and practice.
