A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a team of dedicated research nurses, midwives and clinical trials assistant delivering a wide range of clinical research within the specialty of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OG&N)

Applications are invited from midwives with significant midwifery experience of working at band 5 level or above to join a dynamic and expanding research team within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The research team supports a range of reproductive health, childbirth & neonatology clinical trials.

The base site for this vacancy is the Jessop Wing, at STH. The post holder will work as part of a team of experienced research support staff that includes nurses, midwives, research co-ordinator & clinical trials assistant who co-ordinate a range of studies across Gynaecology, Neonatology, Obstetrics and Assisted Conception.

The OG&N Research Team is actively affiliated to the Clinical Research Facility which shares its research training, systems and procedures with the Directorate team and the post holder will be expected to be a member of the wider CRF team. The team has close links with the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and the Yorkshire & Humber Clinical research network (CRN).
- Assess patients/volunteers for eligibility for research and to monitor their condition throughout their participation.
- Safeguard the interest of patients by liaising with relevant trial personnel and contributing towards trial design and protocol.
- Undertake an active role in the ethical requirements, including research ethics submission, the informed consent process and participant support.
- Assess and evaluate the progress of on-going clinical trials and research undertaken in the unit, maintaining an accurate account of the status of the projects and to regularly update the PI, department and other stakeholders.
- Immediately report, using the appropriate procedures, Serious Adverse Events (SAEs) and Suspected Unexpected Serious Adverse Reactions (SUSARs).
- Ensure that all proposed research projects carried out in the department are registered and reviewed by the Trust R&D Department (Clinical Research and Innovation Office - CRIO) and Research Ethics Committee (REC) prior to commencement, and that updates and amendments are reported in a timely fashion.
