Leeds, United Kingdom East Street Arts Full time

**Introduction to the Role**

Over the last twenty years the charity has developed a portfolio of buildings that: we own, we are in the process of purchasing, and that we hold a variety of long-term and short-term leases on.

The buildings are a fundamental element of the organisation as they serve to support its income generation and therefore sustainability, and they are crucial assets for our core work:

- Nationally with artists as part of their support and development
- Locally with our neighbours through our public programming
- Nationally and internationally through our exchange/residency projects
- Our buildings and their functional spaces play an important role in:

- Place making and the regeneration agendas for urban development.
- Becoming important connectors during events such as Leeds 2023.
- Offering artists a home to make and show new work with and for their peers and audiences.

**The Role**

The core focus of this role is to develop and maintain space for artists. The ongoing learning from this area of our work is cascaded to our studio holders and beyond. Feasibility studies, re-development projects, consultancy work, and responding to people on a one to one basis when they need help with buildings are all examples of our commitment to communicate best practise and findings from our experiences and research.

If you are looking for a strategic, busy, role that has an impact on artists and the people they work with, and a role

that combines the artistic sector and the property sector in an exciting way for everyone involved - this is the role for you. A wide range of tasks within the role, and the department, focus on the maintenance and support of our existing, established, achievements. However, there is room to strategically explore both current and new ideas and developments.

You will lead a team of three that have expertise in artists support, building maintenance/health and safety and the administration of utilities, rates and lease handling. You will also be a part of the organisations’ Senior Management Team, a significant and appropriate position for this role, and will sit alongside the: Business and Development Lead, Engagement Lead, Artists Support Lead, Hospitality Lead, Financial Controller and Marketing Lead.

The purpose of this role includes:

- Leading on the care and support of our studio holders.
- Responsibility for the management of our buildings and facilities (including meeting financial targets).
- Evidence impact through an overview of collated data.
- Explore new sustainable projects.

**Key Duties**

**Buildings, facilities and operations**
- To work closely with the Directors and the Financial Controller to monitor, manage and develop the business model, ensuring it continues to meet its targets and support the organisation.
- To design, budget, implement and manage a Planned Preventive Maintenance system.
- To ensure that all facilities are maintained and operated to guarantee the welfare of all users and that all risks are managed and reported.
- To manage all relevant supplier and service agreement contracts and monitor performance. Oversee regular reviews of such contracts and ensure quality of service, compliance with our environmental responsibilities, and best value.
- To be responsible for repairs to the building’s infrastructure and facilities, preparing project budgets for approval, and appointing and overseeing external contractors where appropriate.
- To contribute to the setting of annual and project budgets with the Finance Controller and Artistic Director, managing expenditure within set budgets without loss of quality, manage debt liabilities and provide forecasts and reports.
- To actively contribute to the work of the Senior Management Team, including compiling and presenting reports, and providing advice and data to support decision-making.
- To line manage, oversee and review
- the work of the Spaces Team, including three members: Building and Community Manager, Artist Development Coordinator and Spaces and Studios Administrator.
- To lead on external relationships including a significant property broker, property agents, local authorities and studio holders.
- To oversee operational and legal matters including leases and tenancies.

**Health and safety**
- To take responsibility for developing and implementing East Street Arts’ health and safety policy and procedures, with the Artistic Director.
- To lead on security procedures and training, and to investigate and act on issues raised by staff and artists regarding public safety within our buildings.
- To be responsible for the security
- of the premises and to be one of
- the designated key holders, able to respond to callouts for building related emergencies.
- To ensure that all necessary operation(s) risk assessments are in place, including fire risk assessments and evacuation procedures.
