**Current Pay Rate (April 2023)**

£13.85 per hour (day rate) - Monday to Sunday

NMW £10.42 per hour (sleep rate) - Monday to Sunday

£20.77 per hour - Bank Holiday (day rate)

**Job Summary/ Support Provided**

We are currently recruiting for 1 part time position (12-hour contract), this would be 1 x 12 hour shift on a Friday, 08:00 - 20.00. You will be working within a small team, currently consisting of 1 team leader and 1 other support worker. You will need to be fully flexible to cover shifts Monday through Sunday to cover for sickness and annual leave and have the flexibility to cover sleep in shift if needed.

**About the Client**

A is a 38-year-old male who has sustained a significant brain injury as the result of a Road Traffic Accident 10 years ago. He has significant mobility issues he is able to walk but with some difficulty at times he will use a wheelchair to mobilise, and he also experiences Dysphagia and well-managed epilepsy with occasional need for rescue medication. A therapy team has been appointed to oversee his ongoing rehabilitation and promote his independence.

A is very intelligent and loves stimulating conversation. He is very technically savvy and enjoys gaming, music and going for coffees in the community. He is very driven to become as an independent as possible.

He has a good sense of humour, enjoys various activities, and has a good relationship with his staff. His speech has been affected due to his brain injury, but he enjoys socialising and communicating with his staff, family and the wider community. Patience, understanding, and effective communication is essential for him to ensure that he is included and respected throughout his support.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities of the Position**

The position requires that you work independently to a very great extent. The position therefore requires that you work and conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to the Employer. Reliability, integrity and complete trustworthiness are essential attributes in this post.

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**:

- To maintain the Client's general health
- To maintain Client's personal care to include: washing/bathing, dressing, teeth cleaning, nail care and continence care
- To maintain Client's sleep pattern
- To maintain Client's nutrition
- To maintain Client's physical management
- To support Client's therapeutic engagement
- To provide appropriate leisure activities for the Client
- To contribute to all household duties - including cleaning of equipment
- To drive Client's adapted vehicle
- To support Client on family holidays
- To maintain Client's safety in all environments
- To promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
- To promote effective communication and relationships
- To contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse
- To enable Clients to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance
- To enable Clients to participate in recreation and leisure activities
- To supervise activities in line with care plan guidelines
- To establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with the Client
- To work with both independently and with other members of the care team to promote and maintain an independent lifestyle for the Client and to provide the highest standard of health care
- To contribute to all household duties for the Client including cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing his clothes
- To travel to hospitals or elsewhere for therapeutic care
- To be responsible for the Client's personal welfare
- To provide personal care for the Client, which **will** include personal hygiene
- To travel for social or other activities
- To complete daily records as advised including timesheets, care plan summary and critical incidents
- To liaise with other agencies
- To attend review meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer
- To attend training sessions as arranged.

**Personal Specification**

**Desirable**
- NVQ in Health and Social Care
- Experience supporting therapy programmes e.g., Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist and Physiotherapist

**Essential**
- Previous experience of caring for others
- Previous experience of working with clients in their own homes and lone working
- Experience of providing care services to physically disabled individuals
- Working with clients with Epilepsy
- Awareness of the principles of confidentiality
- Understanding of taking a reablement approach to promote independence
- Knowledge of safeguarding protocol and procedures
- Knowledge of Epilepsy and ability to spot the signs of a seizure
