Assistant National Conservator, Filming

We have a fantastic one-year fixed term opportunity for an Assistant National Conservator to join our Filming & Locations team, advising and supporting TV dramas and feature film projects at National Trust locations.
The role is offered on a 12-month fixed term contract or internal secondment basis.
**Salary**: The salary advertised of £40,189 includes a base salary of £35,724 plus an additional inner London weighting allowance of £4,465.
What it's like to work here:You’ll work with a tight knit team of 7 people managing filming contracts at National Trust properties and land in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have an average of 3 - 5 large scale film or TV drama projects each month. The film industry is fast paced, ever changing and works to tight deadlines. Therefore, so do we.
Your contractual location will be 20 Grosvenor Gardens, Mayfair in London, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will involve travel to meet with colleagues and to carry out work.
You’ll look for creative solutions to maintain standards of care & preventive conservation during filming activities. You’ll use your consultancy skills to advise property operational staff and collaborate across multiple teams in the organisation while working as part of Filming & Locations. You’ll support staff development and build the capability and confidence of operational teams to host film Productions and share best practice across the organisation.
You’ll coordinate the deployment of freelance filming conservators to supervise filming on site. You will give talks, contribute content, and actively promote both internally and externally the part you play to mitigate the risks of damage to collections, interiors, buildings, and grounds during filming. This role will be primarily office based although you will attend some reconnaissance visits and on occasion help to supervise filming activities at properties, therefore some travel will be required.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Qualification to degree level in a conservation specialism or preventive conservation (or equivalents) and / or practical post qualification conservation experience in remedial or preventive conservation.
- Knowledge of preventive conservation, care & management of historic interiors & collections.
- Knowledge & understanding of how production crews, media broadcast units & photographers operate.
- Good consulting skills: listening, building trust & acting to deliver a high-quality service.
- Good communication & interpersonal skills incl. able to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong organisational skills & ability to prioritise across multiple work streams with competing deadlines.
- Ability to work as part of a team sharing learning & ideas.
- Ability to enthuse, inspire & raise the confidence of colleagues involved in hosting filming.
