The post holder will be instrumental in promoting the success of the Occupational Health (OH) Service ensuring that employees receive a quality service based on the principles of good clinical governance. The primary outcome will be that the highest standards of OH are achieved and the post holder will maximise the use of resources and exploit development opportunities to their fullest potential. In conjunction with the Specialist OH Nurses, the post holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and expertise in OH as a clinician, educator, advisor and advocate. Other outcomes will include empowering staff within the field, acting as a change agent and role model, and ensuring good working relationships.

Clinical Activities

The post holder will have a clinical caseload and also support the OH nursing team and specialty trainee with their casework.
- Pre-placement assessments
- Assessments regarding fitness for work and rehabilitation following management or self-referrals.
- Management of risk from BBV 's.
- Providing advice on assessment and management of health risks in the workplace
- Providing advice on assessment and management of environmental risks
- Policy writing, attending Trust - wide committee meetings, clinical governance activities - shared with other members of the team

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

**Key Result Areas**:
1. Effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes
2. Promotion of the highest clinical standards in the management of OH work in conjunction with the Lead consultant and OH Nurse Manager to provide effective delivery and management of the service
3. Participation in the teaching and clinical supervision of the OH team including clinical and educational supervision of StR trainees
4. Active participation in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit
5. Active participation in continuing medical education for self and others
6. Participation in regular audit activities of clinical activity and effectiveness that aid improvement and extension to OH service, including regular participation in the Thames Valley Association of NHS Occupational Health Physicians (ANHOPS) audit and governance group
7. Enhancement and development of the Trust OH services

**Overview of OH Responsibilities**:
Clinical Activities
- Pre-placement occupational health assessments
- Intra-employment assessments regarding fitness for work and rehabilitation following management or self-referrals. The post holder will have a clinical caseload and also support the OH nursing team and specialty trainee with their casework.
- Management of sharp and contamination incidents
- Support OH nursing team in their activities including immunisation programmes, pre-placement work health assessments, management of sharps injuries
- Providing advice on assessment and management of health risks in the workplace
- Providing advice on assessment and management of environmental risks
- Policy writing, attending Trust - wide committee meetings, clinical governance activities - shared with other members of the team

Management and Leadership
- Work in conjunction with the Head of Occupational Health and Lead OH consultant to analyse the needs of the OH business and assist with the design and development of a structure and infrastructure to support excellence in service delivery
- Actively contribute to and influence the formulation of strategic management of employee health, safety and welfare issues to enable the provision of a safer, healthier environment for employees, patients and visitors
- Contribute to the design and development of OH services ensuring that OH services and products are benchmarked and continuously improved to enhance their value to the Trust
- Champion employee health and well being
- Articulate the Trust vision, mission and strategic goals with particular emphasis on OH
