This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Department of Acute General Medicine (AGM) at the Horton Hospital in Banbury, which offers excellent training in the management of the acute unselected medical take and the delivery of care on the Acute Ambulatory Unit (RAU).

**1. a) Principal Responsibilities/Daily Commitments**:
Attendance at ward rounds, the day to day care of patients in wards and outpatients clinics, as appropriate to the grade of the post and under the direction of the responsible consultants.

**1. b) Description of Working Pattern**:
The working patterns is shared amongst all the FY1 doctors and is compliant with the 2016 Terms and Conditions of Service.

The Horton is a District General Hospital in Banbury with an Emergency Dept, admitting a largely unselected medical take.

There is a team of at least 8 general physicians based at the Horton operating a team based structure, with on-call currently 1 in 8. We maintain the connection between the OUHFT hospital sites by having rotating posts and specialist input from the JR to patients at the Horton. A consultant is typically supported by a team of 1 specialty registrar and 2 junior trainees - FY1 plus FY2 / CMT / GPVTS.

The post holder can expect to acquire practical experience and a knowledge of the diagnosis and management of selected common medical emergencies, and should become proficient in:

- the management of acute coronary syndromes
- the assessment and management of cardiac failure
- the assessment and management of the unconscious patient
- the assessment and management of acute stroke
- the assessment and management of gastrointestinal haemorrhage
- the assessment and management of respiratory infectious and respiratory failure
- the assessment, diagnosis and management of acutely ill patients with specific presentations
- the assessment and management of frail elderly patients
- the assessment and management of self harm patients
- intravenous fluid management and intravenous drug administration
- drug prescribing
