**Job Purpose**

The Head of Network Planning has overall responsibility for the strategic routing & scheduling of all fleets.

The focus of the role is to lead the business unit, supporting the Distribution Director, in the execution of all activity within the business area, from ensuring day-to-day operational delivery to ongoing transformation, creating innovative solutions and a culture of continuous improvement.

The role is key in developing stakeholder relationships, internally and externally, likewise in developing and embedding best practice, demonstrating strong financial management, owing the P&L, and accountable for driving overall business area performance.

**What you will deliver (responsibilities include)**:

- Scheduling leadership of the overall business unit, with a strategic outlook in delivering customer value and excellence across several operational sectors.
- Working across stakeholder groups in building and maintaining key sustainable relationships, delivering both through direct operational lines and working across functions to anticipate and execute customer requirements.
- Develop relationships with our commercial & business development teams to become an integral part of the solutions design team.
- Development of all road transport planning with the UK network including trunking, wholesale, radial and direct to patient deliveries.
- Monitor budgets, resources and progress, demonstrating that the business unit team are fully engaged, performing to our customer requirements, and that risks are mitigated.
- Ensure a structured way of working is adopted and evolved, personally and across teams, with a clear management frameworks.
- Ensure partnership with Heads of Operations to lead regional reviews of routing efficiency and ensure a joined up agenda.
- Responsible for forecasting, budgeting and reporting cycles in partnership with the Finance Business Partner.
- Partner with UK fleet team to ensure the appropriate allocation of fleet aligned to budget and volume constraints.

**Key Knowledge, essential skills and experience needed**:

- Prior experience in Network planning an solutions design.
- Deep operational sector knowledge, ideally gained within a large complex 3PL environment, and an awareness of the healthcare and life sciences sector.
- Excellent analytical skills with knowledge of Six-Sigma, advanced level Excel and planning software skills
- High standard of interpersonal communication, compelling intercultural skills.
- Experience of leading and transforming teams through investment in technological solutions, process reengineering and team development.
- A flexible approach to work and be capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with experience of working within a changing business environment essential.
- A proactive approach to problem solving, with the confidence to propose new solutions, process improvements and challenge the status quo.
- An ability to travel to display strong visible leadership, with a full UK driving licence.
- High standard of written and oral English language.
- Works in diverse teams with ease, valuing a mix of styles, perspectives, and experience.
