**Job description**:
If successful, you will gain an understanding of a range of industries, particularly energy and water sectors, complementing this with your relationship management skills and relevant scientific and technical background to develop, win and deliver projects. You will work as part of a team of scientists and scientific consultants working closely with our business colleagues and collaboratively with the broader organisation to lean on specialist skills and ensure the latest pioneering science is being employed and pulled through to the benefit of our customers.

To give you a feel for the work, some recent examples of the types of projects undertaken by members across the team include:

- Evaluating and trialling the use of longer-range weather forecasting to aid industry planning and decision-making;
- Designing, developing and delivering training to industry on the use of climate data for reporting and decision-making;
- Climate change assessment to help tourism customers understand the potential impacts of climate change on their assets in the future;
- Generating event sets of adverse meteorological conditions in current and future climates to aid the resilience of a highly renewable electricity system of the future, aiding the national path towards Net Zero;

Your job will encompass a range of activities, varying between projects. As a Trainee Scientific Consultant these will include building relationships with customers, to aid the identification of their needs, drivers and decision-making processes, and helping recognise how weather and climate information can help with this.

You could be involved at all stages of projects, including understanding the opportunity; supporting the writing of bids and proposals; undertaking scientific analysis by researching and coding new analytical methods to utilise weather and climate data together with business data; and providing information through a variety of methods such as reports, presentations and the delivery of training.
