The new Serious Violence Duty 2023 places a statutory duty on a range of authorities including Local Authorities. South Gloucestershire Council and its partners already have a well-established local Violence Reduction Partnership, which supports the Violence Reduction Officer in the development of our annual Needs Assessment, and the development and delivery of our strategy.

As the Violence Reduction Service Officer this will provide an exciting opportunity for you to be at the heart of tackling a national and local priority to prevent and respond to serious violence.

You will be working within a wider Community Safety Team, which has responsibility for tackling anti-social behaviour and other high profile community safety issues such as domestic abuse and hate crime. Working as part of a Team will support you in the delivery of your work, where you will be encouraged to be creative and innovative in developing and implementing upstream interventions to improve outcomes for children and young people, their families, and communities.

**What Will You be Doing?***
- Daily, you will lead and co-ordinate work to support the development and implementation of a South Gloucestershire Serous Violence Needs Assessment and Strategy
- You will build strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including Police, schools, our voluntary and community sector and working closely with colleagues in Safeguarding, Adult Social Care, and Integrated Children’s Services.
- It will be your responsibility for overseeing the delivery of the South Gloucestershire Violence Reduction Partnership action plan, and managing the Partnership Intelligence Management Meeting (PIMM)
- Within the service you will work with others to identify those most at risk of exploitation and becoming involved in violent crime.
- You will be involved in the development and commissioning of upstream interventions to improve outcomes for children and young people, their families, and communities.
- A considerable part of work, you will collate and provide evaluation and monitoring reports, including reports on the serious violence. This includes the monitoring and reporting on the Serious Violence Budget, including financial forecasting and spend.
- You will be expected to maintain current awareness of legislative changes and best practice

**What we need from you**:

- You will hold a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification or have relevant experience.
- You should have relevant specialist knowledge of safeguarding services, backed by evidence of practical experience of developing and implementing actions in response to these.
- You will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with a wide range of partners and community groups.
- You will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the use of a ‘Public Health Approach’ to prevent and respond to serious violence.
- Ideally, you will have some practical experience in the commissioning of services, client management and performance monitoring.
- You will be required to produce evidence of monitoring and controlling budgets.
