One of the UK’s most inspiring and best-known faith-based organisations is looking for a highly motivated and organised **Legacy Officer** to join our Legacy Team.

The Legacy Management Unit sits within the Finance Department of The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters in London. The purpose of the unit is to optimise The Salvation Army’s receipt of legacy funds without compromising the ideals of The Salvation Army and to ensure that legacy funds are received and administered by The Salvation Army legally; in accordance with the deceased’s testamentary wishes; and within the practices and procedures of The Salvation Army. Legacy income accounts for approximately 21% of The Salvation Army’s total annual income and is therefore a substantial and important source of revenue for the organisation. The Salvation Army receives in the region of £60 million of legacy income per annum which puts the organisation in the top ten charities for legacy income in the United Kingdom.

**Key Responsibilities**:As a Legacy Officer you will e**nsure that The Salvation Army receives its entitlement under any estate by ensuring that the professional or lay Executors of Estates are aware of the implications regarding the Salvation Army’s charitable status and that its entitlement is not eroded by unauthorised payments from the Estate etc.

In addition, you will manage the day-to-day administration of legacy gifts left to The Salvation Army, ensuring that the receipt of legacy income is optimised and the funds received are correctly administered without compromising the values and objectives of the charity. Enhancing the organisation’s reputation as a good recipient of legacies by building good relationships with professionals as well as friends and family involvement in each administration.
- Experience working in charity legacy or probate administration, or within probate administration within a private practice
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the law as it applies to charity legacies, of the taxes applicable to estates and probate/trust law and processes
- A degree level education and a willingness to study for the ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration
- Strong demonstrable customer service skills with the ability to deal with customers in a polite and effective manner
- communication skills with the ability to convey processes/procedures to customers in a clear, effective and professional manner
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships, and empathise and deal sensitively with bereaved individuals
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise a large case load to effectively meet your objectives to the expected quality standards and time scales with mínimal supervision
- Strong numeracy skills with the ability to interpret, record and input data accurately
- Proven strong experience of using IT software such as Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), Outlook, Teams and databases (First Class) to enhance and improve the delivery of your duties
