The County Pupil Access Team is responsible for the development and delivery of statutory services to enable pupils to fully access educational opportunities by ensuring that each child has a mainstream school place, achieves successful re-integration following any exclusion procedures and is provided with home to school transport and free school meals where entitled.

The Area South Team covers Preston, South Ribble, Chorley and West Lancashire. It borders both the North and East area teams and 6 neighbouring local authorities. There are around 253 primary, secondary and special schools and academies in the South area.

The primary function of this post is to oversee the administration and co-ordination of admissions to secondary and primary school, and to co-ordinate the workload of Business Support Officers with regard to admissions to schools, Home to School Transport, Welfare Benefits and Exclusions.

You will need to be able to interpret and work to detailed policy documents and procedures and to offer advice and guidance to parents, schools and other agencies regarding policies and procedural guidance relating to specific functions of the Pupil Access Team.

The post also includes the preparation of Appeal cases and presentation to Independent Admission Appeals Panels in line with DfE Admission Appeal Code of Practice: and to prepare the Local Authority response to submitted school transport appeal cases in readiness for Student Support Appeal Committee hearings.

This is a very busy team with a variety of functions, the work can be challenging but also very rewarding.
