**Job overview**:
Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant liaison psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team alongside the two existing part time consultant liaison psychiatrists in our Core 24 service.

The postholder will share the Responsible Clinician role for patients detained under the Mental Health Act to Royal Cornwall Hospital with the existing consultants.

The adult liaison psychiatry service is based in RCH and sees 2,500-3,000 patients annually. Most of these patients are referred by the ED or the Acute Medical Unit. The remainder come from other in-patient wards. There is a case mix including self-harm, suicidal thought, low mood and psychosis, plus rarer presentations including eating disorders, adverse drug reactions, catatonias, capacity issues and complex relational matters. The service sees ~5-7 people who have harmed themselves daily, and has ~5-10 ward patients who are seen on more than one occasion who are on caseload. Commonly, about one patient is held at RCH under the mental health act at a time.

**Main duties of the job**:
The role comprises face to face clinical contacts, direct clinical supervision to the junior medical staff, teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates, liaising with other clinical teams and services, and clinical leadership of the team.

The postholder will also be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services and will be involved with the team manager and service manager in helping to steer the development of the service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation. The postholder will be actively involved in our planned integrated psychological medicine service which will see outpatients in our own clinics and in co-clinics with other services, as well as inpatients with a presence on other services’ MDTs.
