**Job Purpose**
To carry out research and scholarship in paleoclimate atmospheric general circulation modelling. Deliver an excellent student experience through teaching and assessment of field-based geology and paleoclimatology courses, and contribute to management and administration. At Grade 8, demonstrate leadership and contribute to academic and strategic management, and advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach. At Grade 9, demonstrate exceptional ability in peer-review publication output and external fundraising through research grants.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following range of activities:

1. Develop, lead and sustain personal and group research aligned appropriately to School/College research strategy.
2. Enhance your research profile, reputation and esteem through:

- Establishing and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high-quality refereed journals, generating research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit;
- Presentation at international and national conferences and at internal/external seminars, colloquia and workshops;
- Identification of potential funding sources and the development of proposals to secure funding from internal/external bodies to support future research;
- Developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the School/College/University and external Academic and Industrial Partners;
- Contribution to team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the School/College.
3. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of high-quality teaching, supervision and assessment activities across under/postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.
4. Contribute to the ongoing development and design of under/postgraduate curricula, to ensure a research led approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
5. Manage a variety of academic administrative activities, including timely delivery of effective and constructive feedback on assessment, and provision of pastoral support.
6. Contribute to the management and organisational duties of the School, as assigned by the Head of School.
7. Engage in personal, professional and career development.
8. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People - World Changers Together.

**For appointment at grade 8 Lecturer**:

9. Demonstrate enhanced leadership, academic responsibility, and strategic management, particularly through internationally leading research, outputs and funding.

**For appointment at grade 9 Senior Lecturer**:

10. Demonstrate exceptional ability in peer-review publication output and external fundraising.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**
Essential:

A2 Demonstrate through publication outputs the setup, simulation, and analysis of past climate using atmospheric general circulation models.
A3 Demonstrate through publication outputs linkages between paleoclimate change and landscape evolution.
A4 Significant knowledge and understanding of field-based geologic mapping and also climatology to enable teaching these at the undergraduate level.
A5 A developing national/international reputation, evidenced by esteem indicators, in a field that matches or enhances existing activities within the School.
A6 Knowledge of advanced computational methods on Linux clusters.

**For appointment at Grade 9 Senior Lecturer**:
Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of multivariate statistical and machine learning techniques applied to paleoclimate studies.

**Skills**
Essential:

C1 Experience in conducting simulations with, and statistical analysis of, atmospheric general circulation models.
C2 Field-based geologic mapping experience.
C3 Research creativity and strong cross-discipline collaborative ability as appropriate.
C4 Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
C5 Excellent interpersonal skills and a collegiate approach.
C6 Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.
C7 Extensive programming (e.g., Python, Fortran, etc) and Linux IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
C8 Good team leadership skills including demonstrable supervisory skills.
C9 A strong commitment to high quality, research led, student orientated teaching and proven ability to engage students to inspire learning, and to provide pastoral care to students
