Leeds, United Kingdom St Giles Trust Full time

**Job Summary**:
Have you worked with socially excluded or challenging young people and other vulnerable groups? Do you have personal experience of gangs, knife crime or the other issues they face? Are you able to speak compellingly in large group settings - but also provide 1:1 mentoring support? Then join us as a Facilitator/Mentor and develop all your skills.

**About St Giles and the Project**

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

Making a Safe Transition is a new West Yorkshire SOS+ project that supports young people most at risk of becoming involved in violence and exploitation during the vulnerable period of transition from primary to secondary school. It aims to develop a preventative, evidence-based approach that demystifies gang culture and educates young people about the harsh realities of knife crime and prison life. It equips them with real tools they can use to make better-informed decisions, as well as giving parents and professionals a better understanding of how to help.

**About this pivotal role**

As a SOS+ Facilitator/Mentor, you will develop and deliver training and educational sessions to children and young people, parents and professionals on topics such as weapons awareness, the reality of prison, gangs and county lines, and child sexual exploitation. You will also provide 1:1 mentoring support for young people in a variety of settings including schools (Primary and Secondary), Pupil Referral Units, Community Centres and Youth Offending Services (YOS).

**As an organisation that works with children and adults at risk we are committed to safeguarding, protecting and promoting the safety of our clients and successful applicants will be DBS Checked.**

**What we are looking for**:

- Lived, personal experience of the criminal justice system, involvement in a gang or knife crime, or other relevant knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group.
- Experience of delivering/facilitating sessions and working with socially excluded children, young people and adults - including the ability to deliver mentoring support to 10-13 year-olds and to engage with challenging young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding practices and policies, and an ability to promote safeguarding among vulnerable clients and colleagues.
- The ability to use monitoring systems to record all aspects of the project, to maintain timely and comprehensive file notes, and to write case studies on sessions with young people.
- Emotional resilience with a positive, flexible attitude, high standards of personal and professional integrity, plus a commitment to consultative and collaborative working.

In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, access to clinical supervision, season ticket loan and much more.

**Closing date: 11pm, Sunday 25**th** June 2023. Interviews: Tuesday 4**th** July 2023.**

St Giles will guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria set out in the Job Description for the vacancy.
