Responsible for the day to day waste collection and processing service, within the Trust. This encompasses responsibilities for waste collection, segregation & containment duties as directed by Legislation and Department of Health and Social Care ’s guidelines through the Trust’s Waste Management Policy.

Ensuring compliance with Trust’s Health & Safety standards and procedures. Ensuring all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to yourself, staff, patients, public and/or equipment. Processing waste into best value, to re-use, recycle and/or reduce, to be positive in meeting the Trust’s carbon footprint and green credentials.

To be part of a team of waste collectors & processors, providing support on a 7-day waste collection and processing service. Keeping records, both manual and electronic for waste streams as feasible onsite.

Adhering to Trust CARES values, and regarding Green, Environmental and Sustainability standards.

To fulfil commitment to service and flexibility are required.

Work with a team to provide a 7-day/week waste collection service to all areas of the Trust, both clinical and domestic waste.

Using a computer, telephone, bleep and answering service to help in the operation of the service.

Safety must be kept to a high standard for staff, drivers and visitors to the waste compound and the Trust as a whole.

Maintain security of waste compound, stores and materials.

Achieving acceptable standards of productivity, workmanship, and discipline. Encouraging co-operation and versatility.

Filing and keeping all records related to the correct disposal / recycling of waste materials.

To co-operate and understand the duties, demands and inter-relationships between various departments to supply a quality, compliant waste service.

Actively participate in the operation of completing all records required (including completion of all waste records, staff time sheets and own time keeping records, both electronically and manually);
Support others in all aspects of the work.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

To be flexible to undertake some overtime to cover both, annual leave, sickness absence and service demand (overtime is not guaranteed).

Works with and follows the direction of the Supervisor.

Use all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of your duties.

Keep all areas clean and tidy, clean equipment, bins (both clinical and domestic) and secure all areas removing any obstructions and leaving it safe.

Keep the waste compound always locked when unattended.

Secure and contain all dangerous waste and valuable recyclable materials.

To segregate waste into their relevant waste streams, dismantling some goods to meet this requirement.

To communicate effectively, both verbally and written, on various aspects of your duties.

To drive Trust vehicles as required.
