Carer Support Coordinator

Haywards Heath, United Kingdom St Peter & St James Hospice Full time

Are you compassionate and an excellent organiser, communicator, motivator and team player?

**About the role**

We are looking for a health and social care professional with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join our Supportive Care Team and co-ordinate all aspects of the Carer Support Service.

Through our services, we offer friendship and support to carers of patients with life limiting illnesses. By listening to and understanding carer support referrals, in this role you will assess, review and allocate carers to ‘Companions’ (our friendly and committed volunteers) who provide suitable time limited support, and facilitate group sessions.

Whilst no two days will be the same, you will be part of delivering something special and feel the rewards of seeing this service support people to live and die well, according to what matters most to them.

**Who we are looking for**

The Carer Support Coordinator will need to be super organised. Previous care experience or a willingness to complete a relevant Diploma Level 2 or 3 in health and social care (or equivalent NVQ) and/or Level 3 certificate in volunteer management is essential.

As you will be responsible for supervising/managing a team of volunteers you will need to demonstrate an ability to work in a team, remain calm, proactive and professional at all times.

You will have great people skills, an empathetic approach and be a good listener. You will ideally have strong telephone-based experience, and will be dealing with matters of a sensitive nature, therefore a high degree of confidentiality and emotional resilience is key.

Other attributes for this role include:

- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Positive attitude
- Ability to build rapport with new people
- Able to prioritise, particularly under pressure
- Community development skills
- Understanding of principles of good care and safeguarding
- Capacity to inspire, influence and motivate others
- Experience of planning, organising and delivering training would be advantageous

You will also need to provide evidence of a current full UK driving licence and have use of your own transport for community work.

If you are passionate about providing the highest standards of care and take pride in building relationships with people to gain their commitment and reliability then this role is for you.
