The Whole Plant Team are responsible for defining the engineering strategy, programmes of work and technical governance. We also support co-ordination between the Submarines Enterprise Partners, Rolls-Royce, MoD, BAE systems and Babcock Marine.

The SSN AUKUS programme is setting out to deliver Submarines on a scale never seen before in the UK. You will need to be involved in identifying ways to streamline processes and embed efficient ways-of-working. You’ll have an eye for detail, be methodical in your work and not be afraid to challenge existing practices. Good influencing skills and communication will be essential as part of this role as well as maintaining an open and honest culture.

**What you will be doing**:
The Technical Lead for transversals will have accountability for cross cutting characteristics/topics/themes that affect all aspects of the design. The most significant of these are plant performance, shock, signature and shielding. The Technical Lead will have the following responsibilities.
- You will provide Technical Programme Management and Engineering leadership of the transversals of the NSRP - Plant Performance, Shock, Signature, and Shielding to ensure compliance with Product Safety policies & processes and comply with Engineering processes.
- You will ensure that the transversals analysis is completed to ensure that the Platform, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant, Sub Systems and components can satisfy the customer and business requirements including, Drumbeat, Availability, Delivery Confidence, Warfighting capability and capability sustainment.
- You will use Systems Engineering Principles to capture, understand, agree, document and communicate requirements.
- You will lead the analytical teams in defining scopes of work and deliverables to ensure that the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant, sub-systems and components solutions can achieve the project requirements and demonstrated through structured verification.
- You will provide technical leadership, direction and resolution of technical issues on behalf of the Assistant Chief Engineer to the Sub-System and components design teams.
- You will ensure that analytical methods have been suitably verified for use in the NNPP substantiation.
- You will ensure an integrated programme of work is defined for the transversal analysis maintaining an integrated programme of work to deliver the NNPP safety case, sub-system and components design that satisfy overall programme requirements.
- You will manage technical risk for the sub-system and the wider project team to ensure overall business and programme risk levels are acceptable.

- An experienced engineer, ideally within nuclear, or within a heavily regulated industry.
- Experience of design, justification and safety case production of complex engineering systems.
- A good understanding of fundamental engineering principles and able to make rational risk-based decisions using analysis, empirical data and engineering judgement and experience.
