**Job summary**:
We are looking for a hard-working and friendly part-time medical secretary in Rheumatology department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The role requires you to provide secretarial support to Consultants and their teams with particular responsibility for dealing with referrals, clinic appointment booking, audio typing clinic letters, discharge summaries, general copy typing correspondence, minutes and reports and general administrative support to the team.

The post holder will provide an empathetic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers, undertaking work under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
This secretarial role will entail working closely with our Clinical teams to provide safe and effective management of patients; you will be the first point of contact so you should also possess excellent communication skills.
Medical secretaries will be responsible for ensuring that Consultants receive patient results as they are reported, communicating the results to GPs/patients efficiently and undertaking any actions required as outlined in the dictated letter. Your main duties also include: dealing with telephone enquiries; audio typing of clinical and admin letters; booking, rescheduling and cancelling of appointments/clinics; diary management; coordinating and arranging meetings including taking minutes; record-keeping; inputting of data, and any other secretarial/admin tasks that fall within the job description.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Good General Education (e.g. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
- Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment

**Desirable**:

- AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
- Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Experience of using IT systems

**Desirable**:

- Experience of working in a busy environment
- Experience of working in Healthcare
