An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader with significant experience working with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) learners to join Bristol City Council’s Adult and Community Learning Team.

Bristol is a vibrant multicultural city, with almost 100 different languages spoken. It has been a City of Sanctuary for over a decade and as such organisations across the city aim to work together to ensure it is an inclusive and welcoming city for all.

Learning to speak English is one of the ways organisations in Bristol aim to support people to settle into communities, find employment and live independently. Therefore, Bristol City Council’s Adult and Community Learning team is looking for an experienced ESOL professional to work closely with ESOL providers across the area to double accredited provision to meet increased demand in the Bristol area.

This will be achieved through the development of a coordinated approach to assessment and ESOL provision and the collection of local data to inform ESOL strategy and support bids. In addition, the post holder will:

- Manage the ESOL tutors within the Adult and Community Learning Team and liaise with Development Workers and the Refugee Commissioning team to maximise our ESOL curriculum offer and response to resettlement schemes.
- Be responsible for the advancement of learning English for the resettled refugee cohort through effective monitoring and person
- centred learning.

You will be part of a vibrant team reporting to the Adult and Community Learning Manager. We have high aspirations for those we work with and are committed to providing a wide range of courses developed to meet our learners’ needs. Along with high-quality teaching, we are passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes to help our learners succeed.

You will need to be a good motivator, able to inspire and bring out the best in people so that they can realise their full potential. Whilst you will be part of a team much of your work will be independent, you therefore need to be highly motivated, organised and able to manage your own time efficiently. You will also have an excellent knowledge of current ESOL issues and challenges both locally and nationally.

This post is based at the Park Centre in South Bristol, which is a dynamic community hub, providing a base for over 15 community businesses and training for young people and adults. There is a community café on the site and ample car parking.
