**About the role** Balfour Beatty** have a fantastic opportunity for a **Head of Indirect Procurement **to join their team, responsible for managing indirect spend across the group suppliers.

Key elements of this role include team management, supplier relationship management, and development of the category strategy in collaboration with all Strategic Business Units and the Procurement Leadership Team.

**What you'll be doing**
Your main responsibility is to oversee the procurement and sourcing activities for indirect categories such as IT, Facilities Management, Professional Services, Labour, Strategic Design Partnerships and our own internal Business unit Asset, Technology & Solutions (Plant & Fleet).
- Strategy development: Develop and execute category strategies to optimise spend, minimise costs, and achieve savings targets.
- Supplier management: Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers, ensuring ongoing performance and monitoring their compliance with contracts and service level agreements.
- Sourcing and procurement: Lead the end-to-end procurement process for the indirect categories, including gathering requirements, conducting market research, identifying potential suppliers, managing bids, negotiating contracts, and overseeing the implementation of agreements.
- Contract management: Ensure that appropriate contractual agreements are in place for all indirect category suppliers, overseeing contract negotiations and periodically reviewing contracts for compliance and performance.
- Risk management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with the indirect categories, such as supplier or market risks, and develop contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply.
- Cost optimisation: Continuously identify opportunities to reduce costs, streamline processes, and improve efficiency within the indirect categories, while maintaining quality and meeting business requirements.
- Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate and align with internal stakeholders, such as department heads and budget owners, to understand their requirements, drive adoption of category strategies, and ensure their satisfaction with procurement services.
- Market and industry knowledge: Stay updated on market trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the indirect categories, leveraging this knowledge to make informed decisions and drive innovation.
- Team leadership: Provide mentorship and guidance to junior procurement professionals within the team, fostering their professional development and inspiring a high-performance culture.

**Who we're looking for**
To excel in this role, you should possess strong analytical skills, excellent negotiation and communication abilities, and a deep understanding of procurement best practices. Additionally, having experience in strategic sourcing, contract management, and supplier relationship management is required.

The following qualities/experience are essential:

- Natural and articulate around senior management. Good listening skills and able to focus on issues critical to senior leaders. Can deliver communication concisely and steer conversation towards decisions needed. Influential skills essential for the role.
- Highly customer focused and concerned with meeting and exceeding customer expectations.
- Experience in managing individuals, seeking to constantly optimise performance of the team
- Both a ‘doer’ and ‘leader’. Can comfortably adapt style to teach, coach, or delegate, as appropriate.
- Highly results orientated with a proven track of exceeding targets.
- Independent worker with high degree professionalism and integrity.
- Effective team working abilities.
- Brings energy and drive to make positive changes in the procurement function.

Preferable skills:

- Formal Procurement and/or Project Management qualification.
- Experience of working at group level in a FTSE 250 (or equivalent scale) business.
