Head of Indirect Procurement

Reporting to the Group Procurement Director, the Head of Indirect Procurement works collaboratively with stakeholders across the business and is responsible for spend across areas including IT, Facilities, Business Services, Contract Labour, Property, HR Services, Fleet and Marketing. Key stakeholders are across the group, and divisions, in addition to key functions including IT, Legal, Finance, HR, Tax, Group Functions and Property.

The Head of Indirect Procurement Leads a team of category specialists and/or managers and is accountable for developing talent, driving holistic value and cost reduction. Holistic value includes the identification of priority ESG strategies across the supply base.

This role shall partner with the Group Procurement Director, Shared Services, peer Heads of Procurement (including Category, Regions, and Procurement Excellence) and key business stakeholders to align on the optimal ‘segmentation and management model’ for Non-Production Spend, in order to maximise value and support business goals.

Your key responsibilities

  • Strategy & Vision: Provide functional and business thought leadership to mature the various Indirect Procurement category portfolio with team and alongside business stakeholders, leveraging external best practices. Develop and implement, with team and stakeholders, 1-3-year supplier category strategies, supported by execution roadmaps to deliver this strategy with short-, medium- and long-term initiatives, ensuring strategies explore all key value levers.
  • Markets & Risk: For the spend portfolio, understanding and responding to market intelligence and economic fundamentals to ensure team leverages the best time to go to market for optimal supplier pricing and value. Delivering supplier strategies which actively anticipate and reduce supplier risk (e.g., sole supplier risk, financial health, data privacy, information security, modern slavery) and secure competitive supply.
  • Contracting: Ensure appropriate Supplier contracting strategies are in place across the portfolio to mitigate legal and regulatory exposure. Ensure team have strategies across portfolio, to embed relevant Supplier KPIs into contracts in support of business requirements.
  • Portfolio Initiative Management: Oversee the delivery of a portfolio of priority procurement initiatives by the team. These projects could apply a variety of strategies and levers including tendering, e-auctions and cost negotiations, price benchmarking, supplier consolidation and rationalisation, make vs buy or lease, demand and policy levers, price negotiations to support changes and growth.
  • Procure to Pay Collaboration: Ensure team is working with shared services and business stakeholders to communicate preferred supplier arrangements in a way the business can be guided to buy compliantly.
  • Supplier Relationship and Performance Management: Ensure relevant Supplier Performance and Relationship Management processes and priorities are aligned with business stakeholders and Regional Procurement teams under a defined supplier segmentation model.
  • Stakeholder Engagement / Business Partnering: Build relationships across the procurement community, Procurement Leadership Team and with key stakeholders. Represent the Function on Procurement topics in cross functional Group and Divisional Initiatives.

About you

  • A strong knowledge and demonstrated experience of senior leadership roles in Indirects Procurement.
  • Experience of leading transformational change in procurement and matrix environment.
  • Ability to deliver on agreed savings and value targets.
  • Proven ability to grow and develop high performance teams.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills required to build strong trusting relationships with cross functional and cross geographical stakeholders in an ambiguous and complex matrix. Use these relationships to support and challenge these stakeholders.
  • Degree level or equivalent by experience. Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Procurement management roles, including working in a business with mature Procurement capability.
  • Experience in developing and successfully implementing 1-3 year regional and global procurement strategies.
  • Extensive experience in implementing and managing a range of complex procurement sourcing and contracting negotiations.
  • Demonstrable track record in influencing in a matrix environment.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Leadership skills with a proven track record to convince others through written and spoken communications. Able to deal with resistance.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Best-in-Class Procurement practices and ways of working.
