Our client is looking for an experienced design engineer to help them expand their product portfolio. With expertise in large, maritime gearbox design, they are looking for someone with the knowledge and experience to help them expand into other markets.This role is responsible for designing a system capable of transmitting power from the source to the ship's propeller shafts. This is a full lifecycle role, and will work closely with the Technical Leader or Engineering Manager to take a lead role on systemsspecified by the manager.

As a Lead Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

- Designing and analysing marine gearbox assemblies and components
- Selecting and reviewing transmission and auxiliary components
- Providing expertise in order to expand the product portfolio
- Creating and supporting detailed design with layouts, calculations and other critical documents relevant to the design process.
- Producing detailed manufacturing drawings, creating specifications for bought out equipment and generating Bill of Materials on company CAD and PLM systems
- Plus other relevant duties (Root Cause, Tech Support, Failure Analysis)

To be successful in this role you will:

- Have a degree in an engineering discipline (although enough relevant experience will be considered)
- An in depth knowledge and experience of rotational machinery, gearbox systems, marine propulsion, types of propeller and selection of propulsion clutches.
- Have good communication skills to liaise with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
