Part-time, permanent position. 29.2 hours per week (FTE: 0.8)

You will be educated NVQ level 1 or 2, GCSE, or equivalent, or experience in a similar role and have good inter-personal and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A good understanding of how to handle potentially hazardous materials and equipment safely would be desirable, however, specific training will be provided where necessary.

This role will require the post holder to work flexibly across a number of different areas within the School’s four sites when required.

**JOB PURPOSE**

To provide flexible assistance across the technical services and other support teams including but not limited to: preparation areas, Stores, glasshouses, controlled environment areas and workshop; and to assist the technical managers providing support for the Schools’ research and teaching laboratories across all University of Warwick sites and locations as appropriate.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

The role-holder will need to be flexible in undertaking a range of important support tasks for the Schools’ research and teaching communities and particularly to the Technical Support Managers, Senior Support Technicians and Research Staff, at the Warwick School of Life Sciences and Warwick Medical School, at the Gibbet Hill Campus, Wellesbourne Campus and at the CSRL UHCW site, this may include other University of Warwick locations as appropriate, by carrying out some or all of the following tasks:
1. To assist the School’s technical and other managers with departmental duties as required - this will involve manual handling (e.g. moving furniture and equipment, cleaning filters on high specification equipment and freezers, daily checking of freezer temperatures etc.) and will include regular assistance.

2. To assist in/with the on-site Stores at all sites as necessary. The post-holder may occasionally be expected to cover stores on their own for brief periods, full training will be provided.

3. Dealing with clean and sterile consumables, collecting waste for autoclaving and disposal, washing and sterilising of glassware for re-use and providing some commonly used consumables such as pipette tips.

4. Transport of non-hazardous goods between locations.

5. Assisting with the Housekeeping of specialist labs such as tissue culture labs.

6. To be responsible for maintaining liquid nitrogen levels in liquid nitrogen long term storage tanks.

7. To maintain the salt level and water quality for the BMRI's water supply, and that of Wellesbourne Prep Room.

8. To assist in the Preparation Areas and to be responsible for the appropriate autoclaving, removal and disposal of hazardous and other waste from the laboratories as required.

9. Maintain records for the duties performed, including for sterilisation processes, H&S and COSHH, in line with local procedures.

10. To be responsible for the movement and replacement of gas cylinders. To inspect all locations and ensure that the regulator and lines meet with current legislation. Training will be provided.

11. To carry out / assist with monthly compliance testing of School LEV (fume hoods) and maintain records appropriately.

12. To be aware of health and safety requirements and deal with or raise any issues as appropriate.
