The post holder will:

- The post holder will operate a four on, four off pattern.
- The post holder will operate on 12 hour shifts.
- Undertake the assessment of clinical and personal requirements for a specified range of patient conditions, ensuring accurate recording of patient observations, interventions, and therapies, as detailed in their scope of practice.
- Staff will be sent to incidents according to the agreed dispatch criteria, requests from GPs and other Health Care Professionals to convey patients who require admission and transport to hospital or other treatment facility.
- Will at all times drive in accordance with level of training in a safe and competent manner. Subject to service requirements, for example some inter facility step-up transfers, you may be required to drive under emergency conditions (blue lights and sirens). If that is the case, then individuals must have the appropriate qualification.
- Attend calls promptly, turnout with minimum delay using the most expedient and safest route to all calls.
- To observe and respond to operational requirements, in a timely and efficient way, as directed by deploying control staff and/or other identified personnel.
- Communicate with patients, relatives, and the public in a calm, and professional caring manner, treating them with dignity and respect at all times, even in difficult or potentially hostile circumstances.
- To escalate issues to a more senior clinician when additional support or guidance is needed.
- Complete a patient clinical record for every patient, ensuring they record accurate clinical information and observations along with any relevant patient history.
- Deliver clear, concise basic clinical information, within their scope of practice, to the Health Care professional when handing over patients in relevant departments.
- To comply with policies and procedures, follow organisational clinical guidelines and other occupational requirements, to ensure safe, effective practice and the maintenance of professional standards.
- To observe all relevant policies, including, in particular, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Incident Reporting. Undertake risk assessment of patient safety, staff safety and public safety.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment meet agreed serviceability, ensuring that they are kept in a state of cleanliness and any defects are recorded and reported for action to be taken.
- Perform daily legal vehicle checks and clinical equipment checks during the course of a shift.
- Be able to demonstrate your own duties to new or less experienced employees.
- Recognise such equipment like syringe drivers, urinary catheters, recognise basic faults or problems and know how to notify a Registrant / appropriately qualified Healthcare Professional as appropriate to ensure the problem is dealt with.
- The post holder will be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of common medical conditions and be able to obtain relevant information by appropriate physical examination and consultation of the patient, within their scope of practice.
- Ensure that own personal practices in infection prevention and control meet the requirements of the hygiene code and health & safety at work; this will include cleaning of ambulance vehicles and equipment, maintaining cleanliness of vehicles and equipment, and promotion of good infection prevention and control standards for the protection of self, colleagues and patients from healthcare acquired infections.
- To comply with all current clinical guidelines, all trust policies, including matters of consent, patient rights and confidentiality to ensure safe, effective practice.
- To undertake appropriate training and development as determined by ER Systems Global and the host trust (if applicable) that supports their role. The post holder will also be expected to reflect on their practice in order to identify their own continued learning and development needs.
