Stores Operative

**Purpose of the role**:
The role is responsible for the inventory management and supply of materials and services required to support the maintenance and operation of the Colas Rail OTM Fleet on time and to budget.
The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring compliance with business governance, and that all mandatory and company 'Safety, Quality & Environmental' standards are implemented and adhered to.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- You will be responsible for the running of reports and raising orders as required.
- Management of data for stock items, including lead time, cost, primary and secondary supplier, setting maximum and minimum levels alongside other key information
- Material quotes & Purchase requisitions are raised in a timely manner.
- Ensure that stock is ordered promptly following usage to avoid running out of stock.
- Ensuring key items always have the correct level of stock available.
- Escalating any persistent supplier performance issues to the Procurement Team
- Compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 Quality and Environmental procedures.
- Loading / unloading of materials from road vehicles (Forklift Truck license required)
- Booking in / out of Material / Stock and tooling. (Stock control system)
- Correctly labelling and advising on rejections / shortages and warranty.
- Manage repairable materials.
- Manage stock rotation.
- Undertake Stock checks / Stock counts as directed and assist in any required reconciliation and storage housekeeping.
- Pick and process material requisitions, transport and distribute requirements for Colas Rail OTM shipments in a timely manner.
- Stores housekeeping is maintained to the highest standard.
- Control waste management for the depot, liaising with other Colas Rail departments and the waste contractors.
- To work safely with due regard to their own and other people’s well-being.
**Person Specification**:
- Excellent written, verbal, and IT communication skills.
- Must be competent in the use of Microsoft office. (Excel)
- Ability to work under own initiative without supervision.
- Self-motivated, proactive, analytical, and inquisitive.
- Flexible, honest, and reliable.
- Possess a structured methodical approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrate the ability to work equally as well as an individual or as part of a team.
- Willingness to continue personal development through training.
- Having a positive outlook on the requirement for continuous change to accommodate the current business needs.
- Having an enquiring and inquisitive mind and being prepared to challenge and think outside of the recognised cultural norm on procedures and practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise work and achieve deadlines.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Previous Stores/warehouse procedures knowledge & experience essential
- Stock control experience essential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in the use material management functions on the business system is essential.
- Advanced Microsoft office skills, in particular Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of quality systems and management
- Forklift Truck and Pallet Truck trained.
