York, United Kingdom North Yorkshire Police Full time

Inspire, support, and develop young people

We are looking for Cadet Leaders to help run sessions in Skipton on Thursdays evenings from 18:00 - 20:00. The voluntary opportunity is open to police officer, PCSO, Special Constables and police staff.

You will need an abundance of enthusiasm to inspire and support young people aged between 14-18 years to develop key life skills, knowledge, and policing experience with a view to transfer these skills into a future career with NYP.

We really value different perspectives, skills, and experiences and we’re looking for people to come and support the cadets with their sessions and deliver some fun and memorable moments

Our cadets have a brilliant range of strengths and are interested in all departments from FCR, Victim Care, Detention, HR, Training, CID, Dogs and MORE. We will ideally need you to sign up for around four hours per month (you can volunteer for more hours if you would like). This will allow you to plan your session and deliver one per month. The Cadets meet every week during term time and on occasional weekends when working in their local communities to help with local events and leaflet drops.

"I think that one of the highlights for me as a cadet leader would be one of our cadets who joined us at 15 years old. This young man was shy, introverted and very rarely contributed unless asked a direct question... Since that time, this man has blossomed into a polite, caring and involved cadet who at the Mayors inauguration ceremony read a short passage to a crowd of around 100 people" Cadet Leader, Scarborough

We have Cadet units in York, Scarborough, Harrogate, Skipton and Catterick Garrison and run sessions in the evenings. The recruitment process is very simple and informal, so no need to worry about an in-depth interview/ assessment. You will receive training and guidance to help you carry out the role.

If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the role, please contact:
