Job Summary: The Local Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operative who can drive to join our team in Oxted. As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of public spaces within the council's jurisdiction. Your responsibilities will include operating various machinery and vehicles to carry out grounds maintenance tasks effectively and efficiently.

**Responsibilities**:

- Driving Duties:

- Safely operate council vehicles, including trucks and vans, to transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites.
- Adhere to all traffic regulations and ensure the safe and responsible operation of council vehicles at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance checks.
- Grounds Maintenance:

- Perform general grounds maintenance tasks, such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding, and pruning, in public parks, gardens, and other council-owned spaces.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other machinery.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of flower beds, hanging baskets, and other decorative features.
- Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of public spaces, including litter picking and bin emptying.
- Identify and report any issues related to the maintenance and safety of public areas, such as damaged equipment or hazardous conditions.
- Teamwork and Communication:

- Collaborate with other members of the grounds maintenance team to complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and members of the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Follow instructions provided by supervisors and contribute ideas and suggestions for improving grounds maintenance operations.
- Health and Safety:

- Comply with all health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals and machinery.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or potential hazards to the appropriate supervisor promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that tools, equipment, and vehicles are properly stored and maintained.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Valid UK driving license (Category B) is essential.
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role is preferred.
- Knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and the safe operation of grounds maintenance machinery is desirable.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
