Duration: 6 months.

**Salary**: £175 per day.

Start date: January 2023.

The Runnymede Trust, the UK’s leading race equality think tank, is partnered with a number of organisations to deliver research into racism and its impact on a range of social issues from financial inequalities to housing, education and climate change.

We are currently conducting a number of exciting research projects in which we are examining the question of structural racism in the UK today in relation to arts and culture, and we are also looking to strengthen our research capacity to enable us to work on new projects.

**Job purpose**

Working for the Runnymede Trust and supporting our research team, you will be working on our groundbreaking project Visualise, which focuses on access to and experiences of art education for Black, Asian and ethnically diverse students in the UK.

You will have responsibility for ensuring the research is rigorous and of stellar quality, and ensure wider project efforts are coordinated, budgeted, and delivered to deadlines. You will be supported by research and policy colleagues, the project lead, as well as an expert advisory group.

**Responsibilities and main duties**

You will be responsible for:

- Supporting the distribution and analysis of a teacher and pupil survey.
- Conducting and analysing depth-interviews/focus groups with art teachers.
- Conducting and analysing focus group sessions with KS3 and KS4 pupils.
- Supporting the write-up of the final report summarising the findings of the original research and ensuring that the published report is accessible and clearly understandable to all.
- Working with colleagues to develop policy recommendations arising from the research
- Ensuring milestones, budgets and reporting requirements are met, maintained and communicated to colleagues, project lead and external partners where appropriate

Our research aims to examine issues such as structural racism in the context of disproportionate outcomes, underlying inequalities and impacts on art education in easily understandable ways, explaining how these elements interlink. You will need the expertise to delve into the intersections of race, class, and gender and a background in arts/education would be beneficial.

**Essential experience, knowledge and personal qualities.**
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or relevant years of experience in policy, research or a third sector body.
- An excellent understanding of the issues of race and racism in the UK and a proven commitment to promoting racial equality.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and co-operate with stakeholders remotely.
- Ability to source complex data from varying sources and undertake the necessary analysis and interpretation to form impactful recommendations.
- Commitment to rigorous evidence based impartial analysis and able to work in a politically impartial way.
- A deep individual commitment to equality and anti-racist action, through continuous development, modelling inclusive behaviours, and proactively promoting equity, diversity and inclusion throughout your work.

**Desirable experience,** **knowledge and personal qualities**
- Background or experience of arts/education.
- Demonstrates awareness of research needs in think tanks and policy fields.
