The responsibilities for the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for 2023 are as follows:

- Delivering security of energy supply
- Ensuring properly functioning energy markets
- Encouraging greater energy efficiency
- Seizing the opportunities of net zero to lead the world in new green industries

For 2023, our priorities are:

- Ensure security of energy supply this winter, next winter and in the longer-term - bringing down energy bills and reducing inflation.
- Ensure the UK is on track to meet its legally binding Net Zero commitments and support economic growth by significantly speeding up delivery of network infrastructure and domestic energy production.
- Improve the energy efficiency of UK homes, businesses and public sector buildings to meet the 15% demand reduction ambition.
- Deliver current schemes to support energy consumers with their bills and develop options for long-term reform to improve how the electricity market works for families and businesses.
- Seize the economic benefits of Net Zero, including the jobs and growth created through investment in new green industries.
- Pass the Energy Bill to support the emerging CCUS and hydrogen sectors; to update the governance of the energy system; and to reduce the time taken to consent offshore wind.

**Job description**:
Are you a highly motivated, strategic problem solver, with experience in policy, research or industry and an ability to translate complex technical insights into meaningful advice for the non-technical?

Mission Innovation is the primary international, multilateral forum to strengthen intergovernmental cooperation on clean energy innovation. Its objective is to catalyse a decade of action and investment in research, development, and demonstration to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all. It is structured around 7 flagship Missions which bring together high ambition alliances between countries, corporations, investors and research institutes to target investment and action to make sure more innovation happens, more rapidly across 7 innovation areas including clean hydrogen.

This is a varied and fast-paced role that will require both a specialist technical background in the hydrogen space, as well as broader collaboration and diplomacy skills. As part of your role, you will act as the main UK representative to, and therefore work as part of, the multinational team which leads on the delivery of the Mission Innovation Clean Hydrogen Mission, with team members based in governments across the world. Co-led by the UK, US, European Commission, Chile and Australia, the Clean Hydrogen Mission is a public-private partnership which is supported by 20 Mission Innovation member countries and international organisations. Clean hydrogen is vital to the global clean energy landscape as it has the potential to decarbonise hard to abate sectors, such as industry and heat, which are responsible for two thirds of global emissions. This is more important than ever in the present global context.

Key responsibilities:

- Using demonstrable technical knowledge of the broader international context around clean hydrogen, lead the UK’s contribution to the Clean Hydrogen Mission, accounting for the broader objectives of the mission and the UK’s strategic objectives.
- Provide technical direction to the mission, including making critical assessments of the current landscape and recommending ways in which the Mission could continue to improved.
