An exciting opportunity as an inspirational and compassionate leader the Consultant Midwife will work across maternity and neonatal services in the development of the professional midwifery and nursing agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care, and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.

A lead Midwife for cultural diversity to support NUH in offering culturally appropriate care for the people who use our service, in line with upcoming national recommendations to address health inequalities

Taking the lead on developing best approach for tackling inequalities in care and providing a personalised service.

Supporting the development of colleagues and wider team in identifying and enacting quality improvement initiatives which underpin the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity agenda.

The post holder will also promote and develop midwifery audit and research ensuring a multidisciplinary approach and actively participate in advancing midwifery practice at a strategic level.

The consultant midwife will work for up to 50% of the time in clinical practice providing expert advice to staff and hands on practical care in all practice settings where required.

The balance of these functions may vary from time to time in consultation with the Director of Midwifery and the Heads of Midwifery.

Main duties of the job

Leading and sustaining service redesign and empowering midwives to meet the needs of the local population in line with key objectives outlined in local and national policy documents.

Work proactively in embedding the requirements of National Maternity & Neonatal Strategy & Priorities e.g. NHS England 3 Year Maternity & Neonatal Delivery plan

Leading on the continual development of maternity care and quality improvement

Providing expert clinical advice to all medical and midwifery staff to ensure best practice standards are met that will improve outcomes for women and enable choice.

Making a significant contribution to the clinical governance agenda by ensuring that midwifery practice is evidence based and through the development of staff competencies at all levels of practice.

Developing the research and audit agenda always ensuring a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach.

Develop strategies to ensure women with complex health needs benefits fully from a multidisciplinary approach. Also to lead along with MDT consultant colleagues in the implementation of strategies to reduce health inequalities.

- Management/ Leadership course or equivalent demonstrable experience

Experience

- Significant experience at a senior level including project management, change management, and multidisciplinary working
- Understanding of the local priorities within the local health community
- Extensive knowledge of the NHS, current clinical standards within Maternity services and Maternity safety and transformation, including LMNS strategy for Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity and the NHS CORE20PLUS agenda.
