Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and passionate experienced midwife, who has an interest in working with Vulnerable women with complex needs, specifically Domestic Abuse and Homelessness.

You will be working as part of a well-established but expanding team. Alongside other midwives with specialist interests who are passionate in delivering the best research based care.

The Specialist Midwifery Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) provides care to vulnerable pregnant women. Complexities of care concerns may include domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health problems, homelessness and vulnerable pregnant migrants.

We are looking for a leader, who with expert knowledge and skills will drive the service forward in providing antenatal and postnatal care in a variety of settings with opportunities to provide intrapartum care in line with Better Births. You will provide visible leadership. Supporting your colleagues by sharing specialist knowledge through coordinating and providing training and guidance in Domestic abuse and homelessness for maternity staff, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises maternity outcomes, also holding a small caseload of complex vulnerable women.

You will be required to be a car driver and have access to a car for work purposes as you will be based in a community setting.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing extra support and care to some pregnant women experiencing high risk Domestic Abuse, in partnership with their own midwife and other partnership agencies.

You will provide a link between the maternity service and other services involved in providing care and services for women and their families affected by Domestic Abuse and/or Homelessness

You will ensure that relevant pathways, policies and processes for women with, or at risk of, Domestic Abuse and Homelessness are developed, implemented and audited. This will involve working with a range of relevant professionals, services and agencies.

You will support your colleagues by sharing specialist knowledge through coordinating and providing training and guidance in the providing of care and support for women affected by Domestic Abuse and/or Homelessness, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises good outcomes for Mother and child.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support, assist and advise women affected by Domestic Abuse and/or Homelessness, and their families to supplement the care provided by their midwives where necessary, for example, working with women and their midwives to develop individual care plans, and making referrals to additional specialist services where required.

Case hold the most complex women affected by Domestic Abuse and Homelessness and support the engagement and retention in midwifery services of the most vulnerable pregnant women affected by Domestic Abuse and/or Homelessness, enabling flexible access to maternity care.

Provide clinical input, professional leadership, support and specialist knowledge when women are not accessing mainstream midwifery care and work in partnership with colleagues where women are experiencing complex issues affecting their lives.

Work within the Nottingham University Hospital Trust providing midwifery led care. More complex women will receive care in obstetric consultant antenatal specialist clinics for Vulnerable women, involving working in partnership with Obstetric consultants to develop a plan of care, ensuring that appropriate professionals and agencies (e.g. midwifery, obstetrician, HV, GP, Police, Women’s Aid and Childrens Social care) are aware of current status and management plans

Ensure effective joint working across the NHS, public health, local authority and voluntary sector to ensure women and babies needs are met.
