File Handler Assistant - Costs - Bolton
The File Handler Assistant will assist and support the Costs Negotiator based within Commercial Litigation and Recoveries Costs Team. This will involve assisting with drafting statements of costs and negotiations.

The FHA will take on a wide range of delegated tasks over time. Whilst working within a supportive environment with an aligned supervisor. The FHA will be responsible for organising their own work load and ensuring that a satisfactory level of quality and performance is achieved to ensure effective client service.

**Key Accountabilities**
- The responsibilities of the FHA will vary depending upon their stage of development, however, it is anticipated that the FHA will work to develop skills and gain an in-depth understanding in:

- Guidelines for Court/CPR in completion of costs forms
- Client SLAs
- Experience in basic costs file handling skills
- Broad understanding of drafting and assessing Claimant’s bill of costs
- Financial Management/recording of fees and chargeable hours
- Costs handling tactics

Procedural Skills
- Pre-action protocols
- Detailed understanding of the Civil Procedural Rules
- Adapting to client protocols and adopting a client focussed approach
- Ensuring processes happen on time and chasing documents as and when required, from insurer clients, insured parties, claimant solicitors, the courts and any other third parties
- Capturing MI in a timely and prompt manner
- Working within internal benchmarks to ensure quality of work

Drafting Skills
- Court documentation

Working Hours
35 hours per week
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.

**Experience, Skills and Qualifications**
- Ideally an understanding of costs litigation processes, which could have been gained through experience on substantive case handling.
- Established interest in law either through further education or experience within a process driven legal environment
- A good grasp of number
- Ability to confidently speak on the telephone, past negotiation experience desired
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads
- Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required
- Confident with ability to take initiative to innovate and adapt to changing situations
- Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
