**Job Description - Medical Receptionist/Administrator**

Job Title: Receptionist
Responsible to: Practice Manager
Job Purpose: To be a friendly and effective first point of contact for our patients and to also provide administration support to the practice team.

We require someone who possess excellent interpersonal skills, confidence, self-motivation and conscientiousness yet is able to work under pressure.

We care very much about our patients therefore we are looking for someone who has a passion to provide high quality patient service at all times.

22.5 hours per week on a 4 weekly rota (8.00am-12.30pm, 8.30am-1.00pm, 1.30pm-6.00pm and 2.00pm-6.30pm)

Holidays: 25-33 days* plus bank holidays

(*depending on prev. NHS employment)

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Telephone Duties**

1. Making appointments and navigating patients to the most appropriate providers

2. Taking requests for prescriptions

3. Conveying messages both internal and external

4. Assisting with patient/visitor enquiries

5. Dealing with Home visit requests

6. Deal with general enquiries

7. Contacting other providers

**Reception Duties**

8. Register new patients and temporary residents

9. Greet and direct patients and visitors

10. Care navigation and appointments

11. Processing prescriptions requests

12. Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to next shift, as necessary

13. Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery

14. Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services

15. Deal with general enquiries

**Administration Duties**
16. General filing and scanning and photocopying

17. Coding of data onto clinical records

18. Chronic disease recall administration

**Prescriptions**
19. Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions

20. Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols

21. Dealing with queries relating to repeat prescriptions

**General**

22. Input and extract information from Practice computer system

23. Observe health and safety guidelines and security at all times

24. Key holder responsibilities

25. Make refreshments for doctors and other team members, participate in washing up

26. Maintaining mandatory training/attending necessary training sessions

27 Maintain confidentiality of all data and information

28. Maintain professionalism of both self and practice at all times

29. Any other reasonable duties as necessary

**Person Specification - Medical Receptionist/Administrator**

**Qualifications**:
Essential: Good standard of general education
GCSE Mathematics C or above
GCSE English C or above

Desirable: AMSPAR Receptionist certificate
NVQII in Customer Care
CLAIT/other IT Qualification

**Experience**:
Essential - Experience of working with the general public

Desirable - Experience of reception work

Experience of working within General Practice
