Technical Manager

The UK Health Security Agency exists to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. We do this through world-leading science, knowledge and intelligence, advocacy, partnerships and the delivery of specialist publichealth services. We are an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care, and a distinct delivery organisation with operational autonomy. We provide government, local government, the NHS, Parliament, industry and the public with evidence-basedprofessional, scientific and delivery expertise and support.

As our Technical Manager, you will be delegated responsibility for the technical management of GBRU. This is done in conjunction with the Unit Head and the Head of Operations. You will provide vision, leadership and direction in the delivery of technicaloutputs, workflows and management of demand and assist in strategic development, including identification, prioritisation of, and support service developments.

You will also be responsible for assisting the delivery of the diagnostic services and contributing towards modernising services in accordance with UKHSA and laboratory policies and procedures. The post holder is expected to assist in any UKHSA co-ordinatedresponse or activity of a national/international nature. You will also have managerial responsibility for the training and development of staff within the Unit.

**Essential Criteria**:

- MSc or equivalent
- State registration with HCPC
- Extensive postgraduate practical, technical and theoretical experience in Medical Microbiology and Medical Laboratory Sciences
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in various managerial fields, including finance, HR, business, project management, planning, leadership, procurement etc., gained both by qualifications and lengthy experience
- Sound knowledge of common IT programmes and excellent keyboard and IT skills
- Experience of interviewing and recruiting staff
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
- Thorough knowledge of Laboratory Health & Safety arrangements
- A high degree of accuracy is essential
- Aptitude for managing people and assessing performance.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Managerial qualification e.g., MBA Project Management qualification, Prince 2 etc
- Experience of working in a number of different laboratories

**Location**

This is an office and lab-based role located at UKHSA Colindale, London, NW9 5EQ.

**Working Pattern -**Full Time. This role is offered on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 19 months.
