**Job summary**:
The West Midlands have been awarded funding as part of NHSE's national Data for R&D Programme, to establish a sub national secure data environment for research and development.

The WM SNSDE will be one of a network of SNSDEs for R&D. SNSDEs are intended to work across regional geographies, to link nationally, and to provide access to multimodal real-world data for research, under the operational management and governance of NHS organisations.

The UHB Research Development and Innovation department are supporting the delivery of this national programme of work within the WM region.

This role has strategic operational responsibility for the technical design, build, testing, operation, and evolution of research data systems including the WM SNSDE platform. This involves overseeing the technical workforce, associated technologies and platforms, the data assets, and research activity.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of health data research within the West Midlands and nationally.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The role will be responsible for convening and leading a matrix technical team comprising technical experts, data integration specialists, commercial suppliers, NHSE-TD/Data for R&D, NHS-D, NHSE/I, and other relevant stakeholders.

The post holder must be highly skilled in the design, commissioning and operation of on-premises and cloud technologies supporting research activity.

Responsibilities include cost management, cybersecurity, data integration and interoperability, and alignment with quality standards, information governance legislative frameworks, research ethics frameworks, and regulatory (e.g. MHRA) frameworks.

The post holder must have extensive experience with local and cloud-based infrastructure supporting data research activities; with leading matrix technical teams delivering complex high-profile technical projects at local, regional, and national levels; and with the curation of large structured and unstructured data sets.

The post holder will act as a central role bringing together multiple individuals from across the region to ensure optimised and effective use of investment in the WM SNSDE platform.
