Your new role

The Cyber Security and Information Rights (CSIR) Team within Digital Services is accountable for the security of National Highways' Information and Operational Technology.

You will work with experienced colleagues across the CSIR Team, wider National Highways directorates and external bodies.

You will develop, maintain, and align the Cyber Security and Information Rights Strategy with Digital Services and National Highways objectives and strategies. This will ensure future digital resilience and enablement of our strategic ambitions through cybersecurity transformation in evolving digital security and future transport environments including the transition towards connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV).

In the first instance, you will be working in the Security Strategy and Intelligence 'tower’, and you will lead and manage the Strategy pillar.

What you’ll be leading on

Managing the alignment and implementation of cyber security strategy across NH, ensuring coherence with other National Highways strategies and embracing innovation, research, and experimentation (IRE) delivered by the Cyber Futures team.
Developing the cyber security strategy roadmap supporting NH future ambitions for RIS3 and looking forward to 2040+; this will cohere activities across all cyber security towers.
Working with the threat intelligence capability to effectively weave future threat context into wider organisational thinking and strategies across the business.
Supporting the delivery of Cyber Futures projects and outputs, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and amplifying Cyber Futures outcomes across the business as they relate to future strategy.
Developing plans from the cyber security strategy as required, aligning with Digital Services’ planning, and ensuring that each of the CSIR tower’s ambitions are woven into both strategy and plans.
Supporting the Digital Resilience Programme ensuring its outcomes are woven into wider Digital Services’ and business activities and aligning strategic ambitions with resilience assessment activities.
Conducting outreach and engagement with peer organisations to ensure the strategy is aligned with HMG thinking, is in tune with current best-practice and standards, and is fit for the organisation, learning and adapting from others’ experience.
Leading on evolving collective security processes across business directorates, working with peers to ensure processes and policies are in-place to protect our people, data and assets.
To be successful you’ll need:
Well-developed cyber security skillsets: you will be well-versed in security strategy, governance, risk and compliance, security management and understand security operations and incident response.
Understanding security as a business enabler, advocating well researched, efficient and effective security strategy levers to enhance the safe and secure operation of the SRN and the safety of our road users.
The ability to engage with technical stakeholders to understand the associated risks and rewards and be able to communicate these to senior leadership in a confident and professional manner to ensure security evolution matches the digital environment and futureof connected and autonomous vehicles.
A developed understanding, and experience, of operating in a cyber security environment that is regulated or adheres to well-known compliance frameworks.
Excellent knowledge of information security standards: ISO 27001, ISO 27005, ISO 31000, Cyber Essentials, NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework, ISF Standard of Good Practice for Information Security, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Top 18 Controls, and GDPR.
The ambition to conduct further professional development in role to enhance your skillset and value to National Highways.
Must have, or be willing to undergo, UK Security Vetting: Security Check (SC).
