We are a small versatile organisation with proven experience in provisions of supported living for people living with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties. We are looking for a Housing and Benefits Officer to join our housing arm in dealing with issues relating to tenants welfare including tenancies, benefits and other areas of their housing needs.

The Housing and Benefits Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of housing programs and providing support to tenants. If you are passionate about helping individuals find and maintain stable housing and have the necessary experience, we encourage you to apply. Your primary base will be in our offices in Newmarket. The role will necessitate your working during office hours.

As the successful applicant, you will be working closely and reporting to the Finance Manager.

**Responsibilities and expectations**
- Ability to write clear and concise reports and keep accurate case records
- Conduct housing visits, assessments and determine eligibility for housing programs
- Manage tenant placement, leases, and move-ins/move-outs
- Use and coordinate with our property management software to maintain accurate tenant records and track rental payments
- Provide crisis management support to tenants in emergency situations
- Conduct regular property inspections to ensure compliance with housing regulations and identify maintenance needs
- Arrange for maintenance and repairs of our property
- Collaborate with social service agencies to connect tenants with resources and support services
- Liaise with tenants in ensuring timely payment of bills such as utilities, rents etc
- Liaise with tenants to understand and resolve issues relating to late payment of bills and rent
- Utilise motivational interviewing techniques to engage tenants in goal-setting and problem-solving
- Engage with social services and others as the point of contact for our housing
- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of key issues connected with claiming benefits, review and appeal processes and legislative change and be able to connect and disseminate information about same
- Ability to maintain accurate records in line with Data Protection Act
- Have some understanding of statutory social and health care services
- Ability to use information technology such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets

**Experience**:

- Previous experience working in affordable housing or property management preferred
- Familiarity with the use of property management software
- Knowledge of housing regulations and fair housing laws
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective tenant interactions
- Ability to handle crisis situations and provide appropriate support and referrals
- Good understanding of the UK benefits system or willingness to learn.
- Previous experience of site visits for tenant related issues
- Ability to be flexible with duties and willingness to undertake other tasks.
- Good assessment skills
- Able to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team as well as Independently

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: £12.59-£14.59 per hour
