**Youth Group Support Worker - (SEND)**

**History of Service**

Barnardo's DSI service has been providing support to children & young people with a disability & their families across the region for a number of years. The service is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

**Objectives of Service**

We are looking to appoint a Youth Group Leader to provide support to young people with a disability and or learning difficulty aged 5-18 years, within a group setting. As a leader you will be highly motivated and have a passion for engaging, supporting and empowering young people. You will be supervising a team of 2 youth group support workers, to deliver safe, enjoyable activities that participants can proactively engage in. We're looking for someone who shares our passion for making a positive difference to the health, well-being and life skills of our participants. In addition to this, we are looking for strong leaders who will work closely with their support team to ensure participants are proactively engaged, whatever their ability. Our sessions focus on fun and friendships which are delivered in safe and supportive environments. We engage children and young people through a range of inclusive activities, these include games, sports, arts, crafts, cooking.

The sessions take place on a Saturday, in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Hessle (2 x 2.5 hours sessions per day), Market Weighton and Hedon (1 x 2.5 hour sessions per day). & weekdays during the school holidays.Hours vary across the groups. You will be based in one group but may be required to travel and cover other areas across the East Riding.

You will require:

- The ability to lead, support and organise a team of support staff
- A good awareness of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
- Excellent writing and recording skills; be organised, methodical and accurate in your daily tasks
- The ability to engage with children, young people and families from different backgrounds and with professionals involved in their care.
- Meet medical, physical, emotional and personal needs of the young people. This may include managing behaviour, medication, personal care such as feeding/toileting etc. as detailed in the care plan.

You will receive:

- Full induction to the role and we will provide a comprehensive training package including first aid, safeguarding, care of medicines, personal & intimate care, behaviour intervention training, autism/sensory training and any other child specific requirements.
- 3 young people to 1 staff ratio - Each group capped at 9 participants
- Quarterly supervision and team trainings
- Robust lone and safe working protocol with on call support

**There is 1 Youth Group Leader position for each location but we would consider a job share such as alternate weeks.**
