Location: This role is based at the BGS headquarters in Keyworth in Nottingham

**Salary**: £25,702 to £27,938 (depending on qualifications and experience)
Grade: UKRI - Band C
Hours: Full-time - 37 hours a week (some flexible working options may be available, including a small amount of hybrid working in line with BGS policy)
Contract type: Permanent

**About the role**

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Project Support Officer to join the BGS Finance and Project Support Team, which sits in the BGS Operations function.

With experience of using project management-based resource and/or financial systems and working in a project focussed organisation, your work will include:

- Responsibility for a portfolio of projects within several BGS Science areas, working with Programme and Project Managers to produce accurate budgeting and forecasting of expenditure.
- Provide specific support, knowledge and advice to Programme and Project Managers, Topic Leaders, and Chief Scientists in the use of the Resource Management System (RMS) and the integrated project and resource management processes this incorporates.
- Responsible for the project set-up within RMS, ensuring the most appropriate RMS project breakdown structure to facilitate project delivery, with accurate maintenance of all standard project profiles within your designated area of responsibility.
- Monitoring the progress of all Project bids on RMS for your designated areas of responsibility to ensure all process steps are completed within the prescribed timescales, and all actions taken adhere to the BGS/NERC/UKRI policy for project management.
- Working closely with the BGS Finance Team to ensure Chief Scientists are provided with the relevant information to facilitate corporate exercises and financial monitoring.

**About you**
- You will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and Maths and a recognised qualification in Project Management would be desirable.
- We are looking for someone with relevant work experience using project management-based resource and/or financial systems within a project focused organisation

- Ability to review and interpret financial and non-financial data and produce information to customers and partners.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to work equally well in multi-disciplinary teams and independently.

- Proven skills in resource management software packages.
- An enthusiastic learner who can pick up new skills quickly.
- You will need initiative for this role as you will be regularly offering solutions to Project Managers and making decisions in line with current policy.
- There will also be an occasional need to travel to other BGS sites as and when required and this may involve some overnight stays.
